HiToms notch second straight win, defeat Holly Springs on the road

It might have been "Christmas in July" at Ting Stadium on Saturday night, but the HiToms had other plans, playing spoiler in an 8-3 win over the Salamanders.

Danny Lynch (Southern Miss) had 5 RBI's and Riley Isenhour (Wingate) went eight innings for the HiToms, who scored the first eight runs of the game, and have now won four of their last six contests.

Isenhour put together the finest pitching performance that HPT has gotten from a starter this season, allowing only two earned runs over his eight innings of work. He struck out 12, while allowing only six hits.

Blayne Jones (Dallas Baptist) got the fun started with a solo shot over the scoreboard in left center field to strike first for HPT. Lynch would follow with his first RBI of the contest, extending HPT's lead to 2-0.

The HiToms would strike for four runs in the sixth, as Lynch, Luke Hancock (Mississippi State) and Jared Fry (Chowan) each notched RBI's to make it 6-0 in favor of the Toms.

Lynch would follow with another two-RBI double in the seventh, putting the game out of reach and marking the third consecutive inning that HPT would strike for multiple runs.

Nick Swanson (Missouri) came on in the ninth inning and struck out three of the four batters he faced to shut the door on Holly Springs.

The HiToms will return home and host the Peninsula Pilots on Sunday at Finch Field, with first pitch set for 5:00 p.m.
