HiToms outpaced by Gastonia 12-10

The HiToms managed to put up ten runs in the last five innings, including seven in the fifth, but just fell short 12-10 to the Gastonia Grizzlies at Finch Field on Saturday night.

HPT's rally got started with a bases-loaded walk by Luke Spiva (Catawba), before Nick Ray (Southeastern Louisiana) blasted a grand slam that electrified Finch Field and got the HiToms back in it.

Both teams would trade a run each in the sixth before a scoreless seventh, the only scoreless inning of the entire game. Trailing by four heading into the home half of the ninth, HPT would get a two-run homer off the bat of Blayne Jones (Dallas Baptist) to cut Gastonia's lead to two.

The Toms will have Monday off before returning to Finch Field on Tuesday for a doubleheader against Forest City beginning at 4:30. They travel to Gastonia for a day game on Wednesday, and will then have another home doubleheader Thursday against Asheboro.
