HiToms fall short 6-2 to Holly Springs

The HiToms jumped to a 1-0 lead, but the Salamanders were able to rally as HPT fell to Holly Springs by a 6-2 score at Ting Stadium on Friday night.

While the Toms got out to the start they were looking for, as they held Holly Springs scoreless through three, the Salamanders would get on the board with a two-run home run to take the lead in the fourth.

Holly Springs would add a pair of runs in the fifth, before HPT cut the lead to three as Anthony Cuozzi (UNC-Asheville) reached on an error, scoring Nick Ray (SE Louisiana).

Josh Nifong (Duke) was a bright spot in relief for the Toms, allowing only one earned run in three innings of work, striking out five. He worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the eighth to keep HPT within striking distance.

The HIToms will travel back home to take on Gastonia on Saturday with first pitch set for 6:00 p.m. After Saturday's game, HPT will have two much-needed days off on Sunday and Monday
