HiToms strike for huge sixth, ransack Fayetteville 11-2

The HiToms tallied six runs in the first five innings, and exploded for five runs in the top of the sixth, as they unleashed on the Fayetteville SwampDogs for an 11-2 win at J.P. Riddle Stadium.

Ben Newbert smacked a two-run homer in the fifth inning and Josh Baker smashed a solo shot to lead off the sixth to put the game out of reach for Fayetteville.

UT-Tyler product Austin Schneider earned the win for the HiToms, striking out five over five innings of work without allowing an earned run.  Nick Swanson, Luke Davis, Nick Lommen, and Eli Boles all threw a scoreless inning each to finish off Fayetteville.

HPT struck first with a pair of runs off SwampDogs starter Jonathan Cole. After Myles Christian legged out an infield single, Ben Newbert drove him in with an RBI double to get HPT on the board. Newbert would come around to score on a balk to double the HiToms lead after one.

Drew Smith added to the fun in the third inning, tattooing a pitch to the wall in left field, scoring Jeremy Simpson, while Smith would come around out to score on the same play thanks to a Fayetteville throwing error.

Up next, the HiToms are back at Finch Field on Saturday as they host the Asheboro Copperheads in a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. and the HiToms invite you to enjoy both Salvation Army Night and Sheetz' Scout Night at the ballpark.
