HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C.--Myles Christian smacked a grand slam over the bullpen in right center field, and the HiToms were able to split a doubleheader with a 6-3 win in Game 2 of the afternoon-evening twin bill. Logan Workman got the win in the second game, striking out 12 batters in 5 1/3 innings, while allowing only two earned runs.
The Salamanders would take an early 1-0 lead in the second inning on a Holly Springs solo home run, before the HiToms responded to take a 4-1 lead. An insurance run apiece in the fourth and fifth innings respectively put the game out of reach. Will Lancaster turned the lights off on any hopes of a Holly Springs comeback, pitching 1 2/3 innings and striking out four to earn the save.
Game 1 saw the HiToms bats stymied by Salamander pitching as Holly Springs defeated the HiToms 4-1. Limited to only three hits, the HiToms managed to make things interesting in the ninth inning, but Brendan Bell came on to get the save for the Salamanders.
The HiToms will be in Fayetteville on Friday, but return to Finch Field on Saturday, June 15 as they host the Asheboro Copperheads in a doubleheader. First pitch of game one is set for 5:00 p.m. and gates will open at 4:00 p.m.
