High Point-Thomasville scored two runs in the 7th and three more in the 8th to beat the Wake Forest Fungo 9-3 in Sunday's exhibition contest at Historic Finch Field.
Austin Pharr blasted his third home run of exhibition play to plate two runs in the 7th inning, while UNC-Asheville's Anthony Cuozzi roped a two-RBI double to the centerfield wall in the 8th to seal the victory for HPT.
The win marked High Point-Thomasville's third exhibition victory of the season and snapped a two-game skid after HPT dropped back-to-back games to open the Coastal Plain League season.
The HiToms fell behind early after the Fungo plated two runs in the second, but Winston-Salem State's Luke Spiva knotted the game up 2-2 after he smacked his first home run of the season to right field.
Wake Forest re-took the lead in the top of the 5th on an RBI single, but the HiToms responded in the bottom of the frame with a key two-out, two-RBI single by Louisburg's Josh Baker to give them a 4-3 lead.
HPT would never relinquish the lead, thanks to Pharr's home run and Cuozzi's double. Pfeiffer's Bryan Kowalski would drive in the final tally on a sacrifice fly in the eighth to score Elgin CC's Colin Fowich.
The HiToms' pitching staff shut down the Fungo in the final four innings, behind stellar bullpen outings from Wingate's Riley Isenhour (who earned the win), Missouri's Nick Lommen, and Winston-Salem State's Tyrese Hearst.
The HiToms hit the road to face the Martinsville Mustangs in a double header at Hooker Field. Game one is set for 6:15 p.m., with game two following shortly after. Listen live to the HiToms call of the game at mixlr.com/hitomsbaseball!
