The Gastonia Grizzlies pounded out 17 hits and used a six-run 8th inning to win 13-8 at Finch Field Saturday and snap the High Point-Thomasville HiToms' three-game winning streak.
The HiToms blasted three home runs in the game, including an Austin Pharr three-run shot in the 7th inning that gave the HiToms a 7-5 lead. Gastonia took an 11-7 lead in the top of the 8th to retake the lead for good.
The loss dropped High Point-Thomasville to 18-13 on the season and improved Gastonia to 13-17.
The HiToms took an early 2-1 lead in the bottom of the 1st on Myles Christian's 11th home run of the Coastal Plain League season. Gastonia tied the game with its lone big fly of the game in the third before pushing across two more in the 5th to make it a 5-2 game.
E.P. Reese responded for High Point-Thomasville in the 6th with his first home run of the season to draw within 5-4.
Pharr's home run followed before the Grizzlies pulled away late to end a three-game losing streak.
High Point-Thomasville will be off until Wednesday for the Coastal Plain League All-Star Show in Lexington County, South Carolina.
Four HiToms - Pharr, Christian, Zach McLean, and Manny Lopez - have been selected to participate in the game.
