Pitching Duel Ends in Walk-Off Loss

Landon Mitchell became the second HiTom to give up zero hits in a start.

Eli Boles did it back against Martinsville through 6 innings, and Mitchell went 5 tonight.

He also fanned 8, only allowing 4 baserunners (2 walks and 2 hit batters).

Tyler Holcombe followed that up with a couple more scoreless innings in relief.

But Asheboro's starter was dealing too.  John Alan Kendrick silenced the HiToms bats, other than a Zach McLean solo blast in the 7th.

That homer was the first run in the entire game but an error gave the Copperheads the lead heading into the 9th inning.

Down to HPT's last out, Austin Pharr hit an RBI single to score Bailey Welch and tie the game back up.

The HiToms were hoping for extras, but Ryan Kayhill ended the game with just one swing, a no-doubter past left field, walking off the HiToms.

Final score 3-2

It's more CPL divional play coming up.  Gastonia comes to Finch Field for Father's Day tomorrow afternoon, then HPT is back on the road.  They head back to Forest City to play the Owls on Monday, who beat them in Forest City on Thursday 9-4.  The HiToms look for a better result this time, as they try to keep pace with the rest of the West.
