Wednesday was a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day for the HiToms.
By the middle of the 4th inning, the Grizzlies were already up 7-1. Defensive mistakes extended innings for Gastonia, and the HiToms were playing catch-up from the get-go.
Despite the lopsided score, HPT kept grinding away on offense.
EP Reese came alive, and had his best game of the summer with a couple big hits and swiped bags at the end of the lineup.
By the 7th inning, the game was all but over after Gastonia had built a 12-4 lead, but the HiToms didn't fold.
Myles Christian reached out and clocked his CPL leading 6th homer, going opposite field for the first time of the season.
Michael Boswell pitched the final 2 innings without giving up a hit or a run, the only other inning Gastonia didn't score was back in the 2nd frame.
Final score 12-5 Grizzles.
HPT is tied with Forest City in the West at 6-5, and are only a half game back from the 6-4 Copperheads. It's a tight division, but the HiToms will have plenty of opportunity to seperate from the pack, they play 5 straight against their western rivals starting with the Owls in Forest City tomorrow.
Myles Christian 3-3, 3 R, RBI, HR, BB, SB
EP Reese 2-3, RBI, BB, 2 SB
Michael Boswell 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 K's
