Assistant Head Coach
Brent Haynes is entering his first year as an assistant head coach for the HiToms. Brent is also in his second year as an assistant coach for the Guilford Tech Titans this season. He is certainly no stranger to Guilford Tech. Haynes was the top pitcher for the inaugural Titans' squad in 2008. His first foray into the coaching ranks exceeded expectations as he directed the Titan pitching corps to school records for wins, team ERA, and overall strikeouts in a season in 2011.
Haynes is a 2006 graduate of Southern Alamance High School in Graham, NC and enjoyed a highly decorated prep career. He earned All-State honors as a junior and a senior. The Burlington, NC native earned State Championship MVP honors as he led Southern Alamance to a state title during his junior year. Haynes also garnered Player of the Year honors his senior season. He participated in the State Games of North Carolina as both a junior, as well as the East-West All-Star Game as a senior.
Haynes spent one semester at perennial powerhouse Young Harris Junior College after graduation before transferring to NAIA Waldorf College for the spring season. Haynes found his way home to GTCC for his sophomore season where he logged 55 innings in 13 starts and struck out 38 batters. Haynes was the first Titan to earn a baseball scholarship at a 4-year college, as he signed with NCAA Division II powerhouse Mt. Olive College in the fall of 2007. He logged 32 innings over the next two seasons for the Trojans and helped them advance to the NCAA Regionals during his senior season.
Haynes resides in Burlington, NC and earned his degree in Recreation and Leisure Studies from Mt. Olive College in the fall of 2010. He is currently pursuing his Master's degree in Physical Education at North Carolina A&T.
